A Lunker of a Surprise for Some
Sometimes it’s hard to tell which is most surprised, the fish or the fisherman.
Miguel Cabrera of Lompoc was fishing for largemouth bass with a crankbait at Lake Cachuma near Santa Barbara when he caught a 2.48-pound bluegill. Officials were checking it as a possible lake record.
Nearby, Charles Ryan of Ventura was ignoring the big largemouth bass for which Lake Casitas is popular, throwing out a Roostertail for trout from shore. Instead, he landed a 13-pound bass--the lake’s catch of the week.
Finally, at Lake Wohford near Escondido, William Wooden of Pomona was using shrimp to catch catfish when an 11-pound 2-ounce largemouth bass took the bait.
