Knott’s Joins Ice Cream War
BUENA PARK — Knott’s Berry Farm is weighing into high risks and high calories with a line of premium ice creams.
The theme park operator is expanding its successful food operations with a 14-flavor roster, including Blueberry Waffle Cone and Candy Bar Swirl.
“They are very rich,” said Knott’s spokesman Bob Ochsner.
The products have already arrived in some Southland stores, and Knott’s is planning a new ice cream parlor at its Western theme park here.
Grocery experts warn that Knott’s faces tough competition from brands such as Haagen-Dazs and Ben & Jerry’s, as well as grocery-chain versions.
And recessionary times may have softened the market. Ben & Jerry’s shares fell 13% Monday on news of lower earnings.
