A suspected hit-and-run driver who was attempting to flee the scene of an accident was killed Sunday when he collided with a second vehicle a block away, authorities said.

Police declined to identify the dead man pending notification of relatives, but a Santa Ana police spokesman said the victim was a 47-year-old man who, they believe, lives in Chino.

The accident occurred just after midnight Saturday as the victim was leaving a nightclub in the 200 block of Harbor Boulevard. His vehicle collided with another car, but he refused to stop, the police spokesman said.

The suspected hit-and-run driver continued driving south on Harbor Boulevard, police said. He crossed into the northbound lanes and struck a second vehicle headed south of 1st Street.

Police said the victim was taken to Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

The drivers of the two other vehicles suffered minor injuries but were not hospitalized, the spokesman said.
