Chameleon Street (Cinemax Monday at 4:20 a.m.) is an occasionally comic, always idiosyncratic look at what it means to be black in America. Wendell B. Harris Jr., who scripted and directed this 1988 film, also stars as a black man whose motto eventually becomes “I think, therefore I scam.”

Dominick and Eugene (Lifetime Tuesday at 9 p.m.) tackles potentially sticky material: the struggles of a pair of fraternal twins in which the “slow” Dominick (Tom Hulce) has been the breadwinner for his medical student brother Eugene (Ray Liotta). Director Robert Young holds a hard line and shapes a story of relationships that rings pure and fine as crystal.

Prick Up Your Ears (Bravo Thursday at 9 p.m.) is Stephen Frears’ bracing and outrageous portrait of the ill-fated, devilishly brilliant playwright Joe Orton (Gary Oldman), his free-ranging life and his remarkably constricted times.

The Return of Martin Guerre (Cinemax Friday at 8 p.m.) is a superbly-made, constantly surprising 1982 French film, set in the 16th Century, about a peasant (Gerard Depardieu) who returns to his home village after a nine-year absence.
