Deputies Kill Man Near Park
Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies shot and killed one man and wounded another near Jesse Owens Park in South-Central Los Angeles Saturday afternoon, after one of the suspects allegedly brandished a handgun at the officers.
Deputy David Peltz said deputies patrolling near the park while a rap concert was in progress saw a group of alleged gang members about a block away.
A car with out-of-state plates pulled into the group of suspected gang members, and deputies saw four men leave the car. One man allegedly pointed a gun at the deputies, Peltz said.
Deputies fired several shots, killing the man who allegedly brandished the gun. Another man, wounded in the foot, was taken to a hospital. The two other men were being held at the sheriff’s station.
