SANTA ANA : Academic Rewards for 39 Students
Dozens of Santa Ana Unified School District students this week reaped presents--money and bicycles--in recognition for their academic and citizenship achievements this school year.
To encourage students to do well in school, the district’s business partners have rewarded students at three elementary schools for their scholastic achievements, said district spokeswoman Diane Thomas.
Last week, 25 students at Sierra Intermediate School shared $1,400 in cash donated by one local bank. Winners included graduating students who will go on to join mentor programs at two local high schools that are designed to enhance their self-esteem and study skills, she said.
Fourteen students at Kennedy and Washington elementary schools will receive new bicycles from two other banks today and Friday.
