Cleveland Hires Paden to Coach Track

The Cleveland High track and field program, mothballed last spring because no coaches were available, was revived this week when the school hired Bill Paden of Chatsworth.
Paden, who will transfer from Chatsworth and teach in Cleveland’s humanities magnet program, also will serve as offensive coordinator of the Cavalier football team.
Paden is the second coach who will join the football staff in the fall. Joe Santiano of Canoga Park was added as co-coach last fall, and will share duties with Everett Macy. All three will be full-time, on-campus coaches.

Buena High third baseman Gary Paul said Tuesday he has signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Fresno State. Paul batted .426 with 31 runs batted in.
The Westlake-Royal American Legion team scored two runs on a squeeze play in the seventh inning and beat San Mateo, 6-5, in the opening game of the Sierra Nevada Classic on Tuesday in Reno. Gene Strojek and Joel Mellinger scored when Brian Del Monte bunted and the San Mateo pitcher threw the ball away.
