Magnuson to Play Football at San Diego
El Camino Real High linebacker Rob Magnuson, a 1992 first-team All-North Valley League selection, has signed a letter of intent to attend the University of San Diego on a partial football scholarship.
Magnuson, 18, set an El Camino Real single-season record with 132 solo tackles in 1992.
Soccer
The California Stars, a collection of Valley-area teen-agers, defeated a team from Colorado, 2-0, in the boys’ under-16 division in an opening-round match of the Far West regional of the United States Soccer Federation National Cup tournament in Albuquerque, N.M. Roberto Perez, a junior at Burroughs High, scored both goals.
In the girls’ under-16 division, the Valley United Wild Things got three goals from Tammy Pivnik in defeating a team from Idaho, 7-0, in an opening-round match. The tournament concludes Tuesday, with division winners advancing to the finals in Phoenix.
