3 Men Injured at Restaurant as Fight Erupts Into Gunfire
WESTMINSTER — A sudden burst of gunfire during a fight sent diners in a coffee shop diving for cover early Saturday and left three men injured, police said.
Off-duty Garden Grove police reservist Ron Mark Jaime, 27, of Garden Grove was slightly injured when he was shot during the 2:35 a.m. incident at Spires restaurant, 15512 Brookhurst St. He was treated at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center, police said.
Jimmy Burk, 19, of San Diego was cut by flying glass but was in good condition, police Lt. Andrew Hall said.
Linh The Hoang, 25, of Garden Grove was shot twice in the back and was in fair condition at UCI Medical Center, Hall said.
A fight broke out among several young men at the restaurant for unknown reasons, Hall said. One of the participants, apparently standing just outside the front door, fired four or five shots, probably at Hoang, Hall said. Jaime, who was inside, was struck by a stray round. Burk was cut by shattering glass.
“The restaurant was full of people, many of whom fled when the shooting began,” Hall said.
Police are looking for witnesses.
Spires remained open for business Saturday morning and was crowded with patrons, employees said. They said they were too busy to comment on the shooting.
