Keyboardist Rick Wakeman of the British rock group Yes will appear at a benefit for the ASSIST organization on Sunday at the Village Church in Irvine. ASSIST, which stands for Aid to Special Saints in Strategic Times, is an international organization which links Western churches with churches in other countries, including Cuba, Nicaragua and Romania. The organization has also implemented a pen-pal project with Americans and Russians.
Dan Wooding, president and founder of ASSIST, met Wakeman 25 years ago when Wooding was working as a journalist in England. The two have stayed in contact through the years, with Wooding writing Wakeman’s biography. Wakeman produced two benefit albums for ASSIST.
