Park Is Selected to Coach Women’s Volleyball at CLU
James Park, coach of the Thousand Oaks High boys’ volleyball team since 1991, has been named women’s volleyball coach at Cal Lutheran.
Park led Thousand Oaks to an 18-3 record last season and a Marmonte League championship with a 12-2 mark. Park played for the Cal Lutheran men’s team in 1983 and 1984.
Park replaces Beth Welch-Ream, who resigned to become an assistant at Montana State.
Track & Field
Ruben Benitez of Valley College, the Western State Conference champion in the 400 meters, will attend Cal State Los Angeles.
Benitez, a 1991 graduate of Taft High, chose Cal State L.A. over Cal State Northridge and Cal State Bakersfield.
He has personal bests of 47.20 seconds in the 400 and 21.30 in the 200.
Softball
Catcher Cheryl Aschenbach of the Cal Lutheran softball team has been named to the 1993 GTE Academic All-American softball team. Aschenbach led Cal Lutheran to the NCAA Division III West Regional playoffs in 1993, batting .339 with seven doubles and 22 runs batted in.
Soccer
Mustapha Sesay, a 5-foot-6, 160-pound midfielder for El Camino College, has signed a letter of intent with Cal State Northridge. Sesay, had 21 points on eight goals and five assists while leading El Camino to the 1993 state title.
