Latest Realignment Plan Puts Servite in Empire League
Orange County principals will meet Tuesday to vote on a reworked league realignment proposal that would take effect in 1994-95.
The proposal is similar to one rejected by the Southern Section league realignment committee June 2. The only change was switching Mater Dei and Servite. Mater Dei will be in the Sunset League and Servite in the Empire League.
The committee rejected the proposal after Brea-Olinda, El Dorado, El Modena and Santa Ana--all members of the proposed Empire League--objected. Principals from those schools said they could not compete with the league’s other two schools, Esperanza and Mater Dei.
Mater Dei also appealed, asking to be placed in the Sunset League because it would cut travel time. The new proposal would appear to give Mater Dei officials what they wanted, but may not be acceptable to the other schools in the Empire League.
The committee voted, 5-4, to return the proposal to the county’s principals.
