What’s the Hall Truth? He Will Be Missed
On May 23, a major journalistic event occurred with very little fanfare. John Hall, one of the greatest sports columnists for the last half-century, wrote his last column in the Orange County Register.
Twenty-three years ago I moved to Southern California from Fresno and discovered the real world of sports. For nine years, I began every day with a good cup of coffee, Jim Murray and the Hall Truth in your paper. When Hall and Murray were in their prime at The Times, your sports section was the finest anywhere.
John was extremely well connected in the Southern California sports world. He used these connections to brief his fans on current events and to break major stories. However, when the occasion called for sentiment, sarcasm or humor, John delivered to his fans.
I wish him any enjoyable retirement and thank him for the many wonderful memories.
