Arthur Alexander; Pop and Country Songwriter
Arthur Alexander, 53, pop and country songwriter and singer whose songs were recorded by the Rolling Stones and Beatles. A native of Florence, Ala., Alexander had his heyday in 1962 with three hits, “You Better Move On,” recorded by the Rolling Stones; “Anna,” recorded by the Beatles, and “Where Have You Been All My Life.” In 1975, he scored another hit in the top 50, “Every Day I Have to Cry Some.” He had been a popular entertainer in Europe after his fame faded in the United States. Alexander, a school bus driver in recent years, had recently been featured on “Entertainment Tonight” and in Rolling Stone magazine and had recorded a comeback album, “Lonely Just Like Me.” He died during a rehearsal. On Wednesday in Cleveland of a heart attack.
