Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : Park-and-Ride Lot Security to Continue
PALMDALE — Round-the-clock security at the city’s only park-and-ride lot will continue.
The City Council on Thursday unanimously approved an $18,345, three-month extension with its current security provider, Palmdale-based SPS Security, and will seek bids for a new contract.
When Palmdale opened the 624-space lot at the Antelope Valley Freeway’s Avenue S off-ramp in January, 1992, security was provided only during daytime hours. Within a month, a number of cars were vandalized. In response, the city began to provide the 24-hour, seven-days-a-week security at the lot, which is filled beyond capacity weekdays and heavily used nights and weekends.
When the city entered into the initial security agreement with SPS Security the term of the contract was never established, according to city records.
