BURBANK : City to Fund Youth Sports Programs
Money to keep a gym open until midnight this summer and to fund other summer youth sports programs has been provided by the Burbank City Council.
The $22,000 pilot recreation program is designed to help keep youth out of trouble, officials said.
“I think the big thing we’re trying to do is not only to identify at-risk youth but to find them opportunities other than hanging out at the street corner,” Burbank Police Detective Craig Varner said Thursday.
As part of a 12-week trial program, the city will keep open the Olive Recreation Center gymnasium on Friday and Saturday nights until midnight.
