Homeowners Laud Airport Panel Choice
In what some West Valley homeowners are calling a boost for their fight to regulate noise at Van Nuys Airport, an Encino realtor has been named to the Van Nuys Airport Citizens Advisory Council.
Ken Millman was appointed to the advisory board by Los Angeles City Councilman Marvin Braude last week. The 16-member council is composed of representatives appointed by the Board of Airport Commissioners, the mayor and City Council members representing noise-impacted areas.
Millman said his goal is to restore “some kind of harmony” between West Valley residents and airport officials who have been at odds over how to control noise at the airport.
“There’s obviously some concern in the West Valley that what our founding fathers thought was going to be a nice little regional airport has turned out to be something else,” he said.
Though council President Sandor Winger said all panel members represent noise-impacted neighborhoods, West Valley homeowners said Millman will be a welcome representative of their interests.
“We are very happy with the appointment,” said Robert Glushon, a board member of the Encino Property Owners Assn., the group that recommended Millman’s appointment to Braude.
Gerald Silver, president of the Homeowners of Encino and a frequent and vocal critic of the council, also hailed Millman’s appointment to the advisory council, which he said is “stacked with aviation interests.”
