THE TIMES 1993 SPRING ALL-COUNTY TEAMS : ALL-COUNTY GIRLS’ SWIMMING AND DIVING
TERAH GISOLO 50-Yard Freestyle Mission Viejo, So. Gisolo made drastic improvement from her performance in this event in the South Coast League meet, where she was second in 25.10. Her section time was 24.00.
MICHELLE PERRY 100-Yard Freestyle El Toro, Sr. This was Perry’s third consecutive victory in this event. After a poor showing in prelims, her 51.59 was the best time she has turned in since her sophomore season.
ALI LADEDA-HANSEN 200-Yard Freestyle, 100-Yard Butterfly Capistrano Valley Christian, So. After winning these events in the 2-A meet in 1992, Ladeda-Hansen was second in the 200 free in 1:50.61 and won the fly in 56.91 in Division I.
ALISON MIJARES 500-Yard Freestyle Marina, So. It’s a rare 500 that turns out this close. In a photo finish, Mijares’ 4:51.70 was second to the winning 4:51.01, but faster than the third-place 4:51.71.
KELLA HOBLICK 200-Yard Individual Medley, 100-Yard Breaststroke El Dorado, So. Hoblick won co-swimmer of the meet honors with personal bests of 2:01.99 in the IM, .11 shy of a section mark, and 1:03.98 in the breast, .61 off the record.
CHERYL MURPHY 100-Yard Backstroke Mission Viejo, So. Murphy was among three swimmers to finish under the 1992 section mark set by the swimmer who was third in 1993. Murphy’s 56.82 was second to Alyssa Resch’s 56.40.
SANDY ZUBRIN Diving Corona del Mar, So. Defending Division II champion Zubrin was 38 points better than the runner-up. Her 469.45-point performance was five points better than her 1992 finish.
KIM DAVIS (So.), JEANNINE POVEY (So.), TRACEY McCALLEY (So.), CATHY CARONE (So.) 200-Yard Freestyle Relay Capistrano Valley Band of sophomores saw to it that defending section team champion wasn’t excluded from victory stand, finishing in 1:39.23.
KELLA HOBLICK (So.), GRACE JO (Sr.), NANCY JO (Fr.), STACEY ROSENBERG (Fr.) 400-Yard Freestyle Relay El Dorado After dominating the prelims, El Dorado answered challenge of finals in 3:32.14, almost a second better than Capistrano Valley’s 3:33.06.
MICHELLE PERRY (Sr.), KATIE SIMMONS (Fr.), KATIE LOWES (Fr.), ALICE PARK (So.) 200-Yard Medley Relay El Toro El Toro, seeded fourth after prelims, got its title night off to jump start with a rousing victory over top-seeded Mission Viejo, in 1:49.13.

Giana Johnson. Time: 24.53. Her fourth in Division II would have been a third in Division I. Nancy Jo. Time: 51.84. After faltering in the 200, Jo roared back to give winner Perry a scare. Alison Mijares. Time: 1:52.50. Mijares, who didn’t make finals in this event in 1992, took solid third. Jennifer McLeod. Time: 5:01.42. McLeod outsprinted second-place finisher in Division II. Took fourth in 200. Christa Thomas. Time: 57.71. Top three went under section record, fourth-place Thomas close as well. Katie Simmons. Time: 1:05.73. Simmons matched her second in league against better competition. Cathy Carone. Time: 57.67. Fly made up for disappointing 100 back, where she failed to make finals. Jaimee Lindstrom. Time: 2:05.79. Lifted team to sixth-place finish with two victories (100 back) in Division II. 200 freestyle relay, El Toro. Time: 1:39.76. Katie Simmons (Fr.), Michelle Perry (Sr.), A.J. Walter (Jr.) and Alyson Roney (Sr.). Third-place El Toro betters times, still overshadowed by CV at league and section. 400 freestyle relay, Capistrano Valley. Time: 3:33.06. Cathy Carone (So.), Kim Davis (So.), Tracey McCalley (So.) and Jeannine Povey (So.). Same team won 200 but outgunned three events later by fresher El Dorado. 200 medley relay, Mission Viejo. Time: 1:49.45. Cheryl Murphy (So.), Carrie Gammel (Jr.), Missy Kuser (Jr.) and Terah Gisolo (So.). Top names everywhere in showdown against El Toro. 1994 may even be better. Arika Earley. Score: 461.00. Finished second in league meet but rebounded for big 14-point victory.
