PREP BASEBALL : Linfield Tops Cate in Division VI

Shin Tamura and Richard Hunter combined on a two-hitter shutout to lift Linfield to a 6-0 victory over Cate in the Southern Section Division VI baseball championship game Friday night at Blair Field in Long Beach.
Tamura, a junior, (3-0) stopped Cate (17-3-1) on one hit and one hit batter over four innings before turning the game over to Hunter.
Hunter, a senior who was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 14th round of the amateur baseball draft Thursday, gave up one hit and a walk while striking out five in the final three innings for his second save.
It was the second title in three years for Linfield (25-1).
Tamura led off the game with a single and scored the only run Linfield needed after a base hit by Kyle Kane.
Kelly Sousa made it 3-0 in the fourth with a two-run single. The Lions added two runs in the fifth and one in the seventh.
Cate junior right-hander B.J. Baker (9-1) gave up five runs on five hits, two hit batters and seven walks in four innings to end a 24-game winning streak over the past three seasons.
DIVISION V
Big Bear 2, Santa Barbara Bishop Diego 1--Designated hitter Mick Hannen singled with two out in the top of the seventh to score John Lyons from second base with the winning run.
Big Bear pitcher Mike Benson (8-2) scattered six hits and struck out seven to outduel Bishop Diego’s Adam Buczek (7-3).
Lyon scored an unearned run for Big Bear (23-6-1) in the first, but Buczek’s run-scoring single in the fifth tied the score for Bishop Diego (18-9-1).
