Jan Clutter, a student at Coastline Community College, began her term this week as the student representative on the Coast Community College Board of Trustees.

Clutter, a single mother of two sons in college, was elected as the student trustee by the Coast Community College District Student Council with representatives from Orange Coast, Golden West and Coastline community colleges.

Clutter, a resident of Costa Mesa, also is president of Coastline’s Student Advisory Council.

As part of her duties as student trustee, she will meet with the District Student Council on a monthly basis to discuss student items of interest to bring before the Board of Trustees.

Clutter, as a student trustee, has most of the rights and privileges of a publicly elected trustee, including the ability to make and second motions and engage in discussions.

However, the votes she casts on issues won’t be recorded because she wasn’t elected by voters.
