LOS ANGELES : City Orders Safety Audit in Wake of Westlake Fire
In response to a fire that killed 10 in a Westlake apartment house last month, the city will conduct an audit of the Fire Department and Building and Safety Department to detect any shortcomings in safety inspections.
A Times review found that many buildings in the densely populated Pico-Union/Westlake community suffer from fire safety problems rivaling those that allowed last month’s fire to spread so rapidly.
The audit by the city administrative officer is due by Sept. 1.
