LAGUNA HILLS : Arraignment Set in Sunday Gun Attack
A man accused of shooting a Santa Ana resident in a fight over a woman is scheduled to be arraigned today in Municipal Court in Laguna Niguel.
Pedro Emilio Diaz, 36, of Santa Ana is being charged with one count of attempted murder. He was being held in Orange County Jail on $250,000 bail.
The victim, Guillermo Aguirre, 43, suffered minor chest and head wounds and was released Monday from Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center, authorities said.
Sheriff’s deputies said Diaz followed Aguirre from Santa Ana to an apartment complex in Laguna Hills on Sunday afternoon. Both men were apparently romantically interested in a woman who lives in one of the apartment units, said Lt. Dick Olson.
Diaz allegedly confronted Aguirre in the apartment parking lot, smashed Aguirre’s car window, and the men began fighting, Olson said. Diaz then pulled out a handgun and shot Aguirre in the forehead and the chest, Olson said.
