BURBANK : Woman Shot in Face; Man, 25, Arrested
A Burbank woman was shot in the face and critically wounded Tuesday morning by a man police said was apparently jealous of her relationship with his girlfriend.
Karen L. Koninsky, 35, was shot at 1:20 a.m. as she returned to her apartment in the 1200 block of Burbank Boulevard after visiting friends, Burbank Police Sgt. Scott Wilson said. She was treated at St. Joseph Medical Center and transferred to County-USC Medical Center in fair condition.
About 90 minutes after the shooting, police arrested Avi Berlfine, 25, of West Hollywood as he approached his girlfriend’s apartment in Glendale, Wilson said. Berlfine was being held on suspicion of attempted murder.
Wilson said Berlfine was believed to have been motivated by his jealousy over Koninsky’s relationship with his girlfriend, whose name was not released. Wilson declined to discuss the nature of the relationship or what led police to Berlfine. He said an investigation of the shooting was continuing.
