900 Million Farmers to See Lower Taxes: In an effort to win the hearts and minds of disgruntled farmers, China’s Ministry of Agriculture announced it will cancel 43 taxes levied on rural workers, the official China Daily reported. The tax breaks will come as a relief to China’s 900 million farmers, who have been the last to benefit from the country’s far-reaching economic reform program. The Ministry of Agriculture said the duties farmers had to pay were interfering with agricultural production.
