Magic Has Spotlight in Exhibition

Magic Johnson had a triple-double to lead former NBA players to a 139-128 victory over West college all-stars in an exhibition game at UC Santa Barbara.

Johnson had 26 points, 13 rebounds and 14 assists. Stevie Thompson scored 25 points and Greg Kelser added 23 as the NBA stars scored 39 points in the fourth quarter.

The college stars were led by UNLV’s J.R. Rider, who scored 30 points, including seven dunks. Chris Mills of Arizona added 19 points and 11 rebounds. New Mexico State’s Sam Crawford had 15 assists. Johnson sank a running jump shot from behind half court to close the first half, and he fired a hook shot from half court that swished through the net to end the game.

The game benefited UCSB’s physical education department and the Magic Johnson Foundation.
