BREA : Holiday Trash Schedule Changed
The city and its trash hauler, Brea Disposal, have changed the procedure for collecting residential trash and recyclable goods after holidays.
Under the new system, which takes effect Memorial Day, residents whose collection day falls on a holiday will have their trash collected the next day.
Residents whose trash pickup falls on other days of the week will not be affected, eliminating the standard one-day delay under the old schedule, said Temre R. Jenkins, Brea Disposal’s recycling coordinator.
For example, Memorial Day falls on Monday, so trash collection will be delayed until Tuesday. But customers whose regular collection day is Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday won’t be affected and should put their trash out on their regular collection day.
Holidays affected by the new schedule are New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Jenkins said the new schedule would require more pickups for the garbage trucks because two days’ worth of collection would be made in one day. If the trash is not picked up, leave it outside and it will be picked up the next day, she said.
