Camarillo’s Pleasant Valley School District is seeking a volunteer to serve on a personnel commission that works to ensure fair employment practices for the district’s 185 non-teaching employees.

Personnel Director Ken Marshick said one of the three commissioners is resigning at the end of her three-year term, creating a vacancy.

To qualify, applicants must be registered voters who live within the school district boundaries and are not employed by the district.

Formed in 1966, the commission was established to guard against nepotism, favoritism and other unfair employment practices for secretaries, bus drivers and other non-teaching employees. Such commissions are common at school districts throughout the state, Marshick said.

Members of the Pleasant Valley commission meet for about two hours on one evening each month to hear employee grievances, develop tests to measure job performance and fulfill other duties.

Commissioners receive no pay and are appointed for three-year terms.

The district will accept applications for the commission opening at the district office, 600 Temple Ave., until June 20. For more information, call 482-2763, Ext. 200.
