LOS ANGELES COUNTY : County Pays $150,000 to Woman Raped by Deputy
A woman raped by an on-duty Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy has received a $150,000 settlement check from the county.
Kelly Salazar, now 24, was one of three women assaulted in 1990 and 1991 by then-Deputy Lloyd Shoemaker following routine traffic stops.
“I was always taught if you are in danger or need help, go to the police or the sheriff,” Salazar said after the award Monday.
Shoemaker was convicted last October of two on-duty rapes and another assault. On Feb. 26 he was sentenced to 14 years in prison.
