Putnam Berkley and Price Stern Sloan to Merge: The Putnam Berkley Group Inc. and Los Angeles-based Price Stern Sloan Inc. said they have signed a definitive agreement providing for the acquisition of PSS by Putnam Berkley for $9.625 per share in cash. Price Stern has about 4.4 million common shares on a fully diluted basis. The Putnam Berkley Group is the publishing unit of MCA Inc. Price Stern Sloan publishes and distributes diversified lines of children’s books, audio and videocassettes, humor books, cookbooks, calendars, puzzles, games, poster art and novelty items.
