Olympics
From Staff and Wire Reports
A Berlin newspaper reported that Gunnar Ericsson, head of the organization’s inquiry commission, has recommended to IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch that Berlin’s bid to host the 2000 Olympic Games be rejected because of security concerns.
IOC members will vote to select the site for the 2000 Games Sept. 23. Sydney and Beijing have been regarded as the favorites.
And, at Sydney, Samaranch, in what was interpreted as a reference to Beijing’s bid, said human rights will be an important factor in determining the host city.
