Pat Burke, 46, managing editor of the gay activist publication Update. Born Patrick Raymond Burkett in Connellsville, Pa., Burke grew up in Los Angeles and attended USC and earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from UCLA. He served in the Navy in Vietnam and earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation, among others. After earning a bachelor’s degree in business at San Diego State, Burke began working with the San Diego Lesbian & Gay Men’s Community Center.
