PREP TENNIS ROUNDUP : Laguna Hills Beats Downey in Wild-Card Match
Chris Marshall and Kenton Payne swept their singles sets to help Laguna Hills to a 12-6 victory over Downey in a Southern Section Division II boys’ tennis wild-card match Friday in Downey.
Marshall won 6-1, 6-1, 6-2, Payne won, 6-3, 6-0, 6-0 and the doubles team of Dennis Harper and Andy Shaw won 6-2, 6-0, 6-0 for the Hawks (10-11), who play at Los Alamitos Tuesday.
In other Division II wild-card tennis:
La Quinta 10, Sonora 8--Hien Wu and Robert Do swept their doubles sets, 6-0, 6-1, 6-1, as La Quinta rallied by winning seven out of nine in doubles.
Esperanza 12, Fullerton 6--Mike Burgess didn’t lose a game in sweeping his singles sets for visiting Esperanza (16-5), which advances to play at Riverside Poly Tuesday.
Loara 13, West Torrance 5--Junior Ben Chung swept his singles sets 6-0, 6-0, 6-0 for the Saxons (18-3, 8-2).
