COUNTY NOTES : Long Beach’s Perkins, USC’s Kuebler Named to Olympic Festival Teams
Cal State Long Beach’s Prentice Perkins and USC’s Kelly Kuebler are among the 43 women volleyball players selected for the U.S. Olympic Festival in late July in San Antonio.
Perkins, a 5-foot-5 back row specialist from Corona del Mar, will play for the North team. Kuebler, a 6-2 outside hitter from Los Alamitos, will play for the South.

Capistrano Valley volleyball player Aaron Garcia, who committed to Stanford last fall, has signed a letter of intent with the Cardinal. Capistrano Valley (16-0) is top-seeded in the Southern Section Division I playoffs.

Mike Beyersdoerfer, a 5-foot-11, 175-pound Trabuco Hills free safety, announced that he signed a letter of intent to attend Teikyo Westmar University, an NAIA Division I school in LeMars, Iowa.
Beyersdoerfer had three interceptions and 111 tackles for the Pacific Coast League champion Mustangs, who finished 10-2. An all-league defensive back, he also had 16 receptions as a receiver, gaining 368 yards and scoring three touchdowns.

Dusan Ancich of Tustin High has been added to the South roster for the Orange County all-star football game.
Ancich, a 5-11, 220-pound linebacker, replaces Chad Peare of Trabuco Hills, who withdrew from the game. Offensive lineman George Roberts of Edison also informed game organizers that he will be unable to play.

Jim Sargent, a graduate of Bolsa Grande High School, has been named the head men’s basketball coach at Fresno Pacific, school officials announced Monday.
Sargent averaged 24.9 points and was named All-Southern Section as a senior in 1974-75. He played at Cypress College, where he helped the Chargers win a State championship in 1977, and at Biola.
