Clinton’s Track: No Deficit Here
WASHINGTON — The White House has received $50,000 in private donations to build President Clinton’s new jogging track, well above the track’s $30,000 cost, a federal official told Congress on Tuesday.
The extra money is going into an interest-earning account that will be used for any repairs or maintenance the track will need over the years, said Robert G. Stanton, regional director of the National Park Service, which oversees the White House grounds.
The nearly quarter-mile-long track, made from old, pulverized tires and recycled windshield wiper gaskets, was completed last month. It is on the south lawn of the White House.
