Pacific Enterprises’ Earnings Rise: Pacific Enterprises, which owns Southern California Gas Co., reported first-quarter net income of $38 million, or 45 cents per common share, up from operating earnings of $34 million, or 41 cents a share, for the same 1992 period. Continuing operations do not include results from the company’s two former major non-utility businesses, which were sold. For the first quarter of 1992, the company reported a net loss of $464 million, or $6.36 per share, including the impact of the discontinued non-utility businesses. There were no extraordinary charges in the latest quarter. Chairman Willis B. Wood Jr. said the higher income was mainly because of lower corporate overhead expenses. Income from continuing operations and net income were identical for the first quarter of 1993, he said.
