Alex O’Brien defeated former Stanford teammate Jonathan Stark, 6-4, 6-4, in the first round of the $260,000 USTA Men’s Clay Courts of Tampa. In the next round, O’Brien will meet another former Stanford player, Jeff Tarango, who beat qualifier Diego Perez of Uruguay, 0-6, 6-2, 6-2.
No. 8-seeded Derrick Rostagno defeated Leonardo Lavalle of Mexico, 6-4, 7-5.
