The Flaws in Defense of ‘Indecent Proposal’ Script
I like romantic movies, even ones with an implausible premise, but “Indecent Proposal” is so inane it’s impossible to like. Jones said the audience laughed in all the right places. I doubt she would have appreciated the laughs I heard at her “emotional” ending.
Don’t insult my intelligence by having characters do things that do not make sense, speak lines that make “love means never having to say you’re sorry” sound like Shakespeare and then tidily tie up all the loose ends in the last five minutes to ensure a happy ending. This is not my idea of a “fantasy.” My fantasy is simple--someday I’ll pay $7 to go to the movies and I’ll be entertained. I think that’s a decent proposal.
