BUYING THOSE ‘BRIDGES’
Pornography?
Nah, an erotic fantasy for grown-ups, perhaps. Also exquisitely written and apparently zeroing in on a sweet spot with many to account for those 21 smash weeks on the bestseller list.
No, no, let us not giggle smugly at daydreams, let us not scold the daydreamers, those 10,000 self-help books are also high on bookstore cash registers.
That a little book, put down by critics, can spark massive interest, is a publisher’s dream. That it may be a tiny love vision, disconnected from authenticity (remember “Love Story”?) may be our report on our psyches.
