NBA PLAYOFFS / UPDATE
It didn’t matter Thursday, when they lost Game 1 to the Rockets, 117-94, but there may come a time in the playoffs when the Clippers are in a close game and need to make free throws.
The Clippers, after finishing the regular-season with the third-lowest percentage from the line (71.8%), made only 13 of 25 (52%) in Game 1.
It has become a tired subject for Coach Larry Brown, one that he doesn’t dwell on to the team.
“I can’t,” Brown said. “This was game 80-something, or 90-something with the exhibition games. I’ve just got to hope we can step up and make them.”

The Clippers went 5-2 against the top-seeded teams in each conference: 3-2 against Phoenix and 2-0 against New York.
