MONTROSE : Students’ ‘Earth’ Projects on Display
Elementary school projects pitching environmental concerns will be displayed today in the Montrose Shopping Park, officials said.
The purpose of “Project Earth: A School Challenge” is not only to encourage children to learn about conservation and recycling, but also to educate the public about those issues, said Jackie Forsythe, marketing director for Verdugo Hills Hospital in Glendale, which is sponsoring the program for the second year.
“The students helped us promote this year,” Forsythe said. “All of the posters and promotion were done by the students. It’s making an impact on the future.”
Students from 10 public and private elementary schools in Glendale, La Crescenta, La Canada, Montrose and Los Angeles are expected to present projects.
Displays and information about environmental topics will also be available from public service companies and groups, such as the Sierra Club and Southern California Edison Co.
Last year, more than 50 projects ranging from murals to papier-mache were made by elementary school students, Forsythe said.
“We’re real anxious to see what they come up with (this year),” she said.
Projects will be on display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today in the Montrose Shopping Park on Honolulu Boulevard between Ocean View Boulevard and Verdugo Road.
