When gays and lesbians poured into the capital last week to lobby for their agenda, they did not limit themselves to sympathetic lawmakers.

Two groups of constituents dropped in to see Rep. Carlos J. Moorhead (R-Glendale), one of the House’s most conservative members and no friend of the homosexual movement. Among those who met with the veteran congressman to seek such things as an end to the gay ban in the military and more funding for AIDS research and treatment was a transvestite activist.

“I just tell them I’ll take their views into consideration,†said the unfailingly amiable Moorhead. “They know that I basically haven’t supported those things in the past. We had a very pleasant conversation.â€
