SIMI VALLEY : Newbury Park Man Dies in Accident
A Newbury Park man was killed in Simi Valley on Wednesday when his car plunged off the Simi Valley Freeway and struck a tree, authorities said.
Richard J. Arnold, 45, was pronounced dead from multiple traumatic injuries in the accident, which occurred several hundred yards west of Sequoia Avenue, said Deputy Coroner Mitch Breese. Arnold, who was not wearing a seat belt, was partially ejected from the car, said Officer Staci Morse of the California Highway Patrol.
The accident happened shortly after 1:30 p.m. as Arnold drove east at about 60 m.p.h. in the fast lane, Morse said. When his car drifted into the center divider, Arnold apparently overcorrected. His compact car crossed all of the eastbound lanes before hurtling off the freeway shoulder and down a 25-foot embankment, she said.
