SAN FERNANDO VALLEY : Former Foe Backs Hall for 7th District Seat
Los Angeles City Council hopeful Lyle Hall has collected an endorsement from one of his erstwhile foes, businesswoman Anne Finn, in the June 8 runoff for the seat of retiring Councilman Ernani Bernardi.
Hall was the top vote-getter last week among seven contenders for Bernardi’s 7th District seat in the northeastern San Fernando Valley. Finn, the widow of former Councilman Howard Finn, came in sixth.
Hall, a Los Angeles Fire Department captain, now faces a June clash with the No. 2 finisher, former mayoral aide Richard Alarcon.
“Lyle’s an old friend, and I trust him,” said Finn, 77. “During forums he would talk and it’d be right on. All the things he cares about I care about, too.”
Hall said he welcomed the support of Finn, whose late husband represented a large chunk of the 7th District.
“Her reputation in the community and the respect she and Howard had were very good,” he said. “I’m pleased that she’s seen fit to endorse me.”
Finn said she would telephone friends and political supporters and “do whatever” to aid Hall in his contest with Alarcon.
