THE SMARTS: The kids from Taft High School in Woodland Hills are getting close. . . . After months of study, a Taft squad took second place in the U.S. Academic Decathlon Super Quiz, falling just behind Texas (B1). The perfect score of Mara Weiss, above, helped put the Valley students in position to win the national title. The champion will be announced today.
