Geoff Bodine became the seventh NASCAR Winston Cup pole sitter in eight events this season, breaking the Martinsville (Va.) Speedway record in qualifying for Sunday’s Hanes 500.
Bodine, driving a Ford Thunderbird owned by Bud Moore, turned a lap at 93.887 m.p.h. on the slightly banked .526-mile oval, breaking the record of 93.171 set in September of 1991 by Mark Martin.
