OXNARD : Victim of Fatal Shooting Identified
A man found shot to death behind a south Oxnard apartment complex has been identified as a 22-year-old fruit picker, a deputy coroner said Friday.
Jesus Manriquez Lopez died from a gunshot wound to the heart Thursday evening after an argument with an acquaintance, Deputy Coroner Zelmira Isaac said.
Lopez was shot twice in the chest and once in the leg with a small-caliber weapon, Isaac said.
Police on Friday were trying to identify the assailant, who was believed to be an acquaintance of Lopez, Oxnard Police Sgt. Charles Dunham said.
The two men were working on a car owned by a third man in a carport behind the complex in the 500 block of Cuesta Del Mar when they began arguing shortly after 7 p.m., Dunham said. He declined to disclose the nature of the argument.
The assailant left briefly before returning with a handgun, Dunham said. Neither Lopez nor the gunman lived in the complex.
