Actors Join Hunger Strike: Actors Jeff Bridges and Valerie Harper are organizing a celebrity fast on Friday to publicize a two-week-old hunger strike by Rep. Tony P. Hall (D-Ohio), who is protesting the elimination of the House Select Committee on Hunger. Hall chaired the panel, which was killed along with three others after freshman Republicans demanded that Congress find a place to cut its own budget. On Monday, Bridges wrote to about 900 big-name Hollywood actors and musicians asking them to join the hunger strike for 24 hours. He called Hall’s fast, which began April 5, a “heroic act of protest by one of the most respected members of Congress.”
