“Muslims Enter American Mainstream” (World Report) was a positive insight into the life and vitality of our Muslim neighbors here in Los Angeles.
Since 1970 I’ve been privileged to work in cooperation with the local Muslim community directly through the Islamic Center of Southern California. From the inspired leadership of Dr. Muhsin El-Biali (of happy memory) to the wise and expanding leadership of Dr. Omar Alfi and Dr. Maher Hathout, our wider community has been greatly enriched by Islam as taught and practiced by the Muslim community of Los Angeles.
Your article captured much of the present reality of Muslims who live in Los Angeles. However, I would like to add that the Islamic Center has been creative, courageous and constructive in reaching out to the wider community. In many cases they have been the initiators.
We all, religiously and community-wise, are enriched by Muslim involvement in our city.
