PET PALS

While Margo Kaufman’s “Animal Crackers” (March 7) was enjoyable, it’s crucial that readers know there’s another side to this story. For every pampered and spoiled pooch and kitty, there are hundreds of pets that are dumped at shelters to be killed or thrown out onto the streets to die slow deaths from starvation or disease. No one person can stop all of this. But each pet owner (or “pet parent”) can do two critical things.

When it’s time to adopt a furry friend, go to a local animal shelter or animal rescue organization. Then get Fido or Fluffy spayed or neutered.
