PJ Harvey turned down an offer to be on the “Lollapalooza ‘93” tour, opting instead for its own club and theater headlining tour to support its second album, “Rid of Me,” due in stores May 4. The trek is slated to start in New Orleans on June 19, with a July 14 date scheduled for Los Angeles at a site to be announced. . . .

House of Pain has just started work on the follow-up to its smash 1992 debut album, with a single planned for September. Meanwhile, the rap group has teamed with Cypress Hill to produce the debut album of L.A. rap group Funkdoobiest, whose debut single “Bow Wow Wow” has become a hit on KPWR-FM. . . .

A reunion concert of ‘70s underground icon Big Star--a big influence on the likes of R.E.M. and the Replacements--is planned for next Sunday in Columbia, Mo., with original members Alex Chilton and Jody Stephens joined by two members of the Posies. Zoo Records will record the show and plans to release a live album, possibly be early summer. . . . Odd couple of the week: Jerry Garcia and Chastity Bono (right, Sonny and Cher’s kid). Garcia guests on two songs on the upcoming debut album by Ceremony, the new band fronted by Bono and her former NYU roommate Chance (no last name). The two are loyal Deadheads and formed their band at the suggestion of the other Dead guitarist, Bob Weir. The album, “Hang Out Your Poetry,” is due from Geffen Records on June 22. . . .

Van Morrison followed his Easter concert at the Shrine Auditorium with an impromptu appearance at L.A. blues club Jacks Sugar Shack. Morrison sat in with club regulars Ray Bailey & the Camarillo All-Stars to sing the standards “Stormy Weather” and “Help Me.” . . .

Billy Ray Cyrus’ next album, optimistically titled “It Won’t Be the Last,” may be pushed back from a scheduled June 22 release to later in the summer in order to allow Mercury Records to milk even more sales from his debut album, “Some Gave All,” whose title song is being released as a single later this month. . . .

Rapper Sir Mix-a-Lot, of “Baby Got Back” fame, is in the studio working on an album that’s set for September release. . . . LL Cool J is making plans for a summer concert tour, with venues and duration to be determined based on how well the new “14 Shots to the Dome” album sells. . . .

The Romantics, of “What I Like About You” fame, have released an import-only five-song EP featuring two songs written by fellow Detroiter George Clinton.
